Conversations with my children.

Sam and Henry were talking in the car on the way home from school.

Sam – I went to the tennis club with my class today Henry. We walked to the tennis club Henry. I was walking with Elizabeth.
Henry – Which little boy?
Sam – Which little boy?
Henry – Which little boy?
Sam – Which little boy?
Henry (getting a bit irate) – Which little boy Sam?
Sam – Which little boy?
Henry – (getting even more irate) – Which little boy?
Me (intervening, fearing this couldn’t possibly end well) – Henry, Sam said ‘Elizabeth’, not ‘little boy’. Sam, Henry thought you said ‘little boy’, not ‘Elizabeth’.
Sam – She was truly in trouble because she wouldn’t walk nicely.
Henry – Who was Sam?
Sam – Elizabeth.
Henry – Which little boy?
Sam – Which little boy?
Henry (getting irate again) – Which little boy Sam?
Sam – No Henry, I said Elizabeth. She’s a girl. Some of the girls were talking. That’s all girls do, talk. They get in trouble.
Henry – Girls are nice.
Sam – Girls talk all the time though. They get in trouble.
Henry – I like girls.
Sam – Girls talk too much, especially Elizabeth.
Henry – Which little boy?
Sam – She isn’t a boy, she’s a girl.
Henry – She’s a boy.
Sam – She’s a girl!
Henry – She’s a boy!
Sam – She’s a girl!
Henry (shouting) – She’s a boy!
Sam (shouting) – She’s a girl!
Henry (shouting) – Boy!
Sam (shouting) – Girl!
Me (joining in with the shouting) – That’s enough!
Henry (under his breath) – Boy.
Sam (under his breath) – Girl.
Me – I can still hear you. That’s enough now.
(A short pause while both boys look out their windows.)
Sam – How is your bottom Henry? Did you have a poo at school today?
Me – Oh look, we’re home! Thank goodness for that. Everybody out!
